Should the presidential candidate nomination for 2023 be thrown open or zoned?

Considering the recent complains of marginalization of some geopolitical zones in the country's leadership irrespective of their economic impact and development capacity, is it fair to throw the 2023 presidency open to every zone?

Considering the trend of things politically, the south east should be given opportunity to present their competent leaders from where the country can choose from.
